Presentation:

LKAB is an international mining and minerals group that offers sustainable iron ore, minerals and special products. We are committed to developing carbon-free processes and products by 2045, leading the transformation of the iron and steel industry.

We are one of Sweden's oldest industrial companies and are wholly owned by the Swedish state. Since 1890 we have developed through unique innovations and technological solutions and are driven forward by more than 4,500 employees in 12 countries. In 2020, the LKAB group had sales of about SEK 34 billion.

Sustainability is the core of our business, and our ambition is to be one of the most innovative, resource-efficient and responsible mining companies in the sector. We manufacture and supply highly processed iron ore products to the global steel market.

About the position

The Exploration department at LKAB is in an expansive phase, with responsibilities in and around our mines in Malmberget, Kiruna and Svappavaara. Greenfield exploration is also carried out with focus on iron ore deposits under cover, for which geophysics is an essential component. The company is therefore strengthening our geophysics group.

As a geophysicist at the Exploration department you should expect to take part in all aspects of geophysical surveys, with work duties including survey planning, geophysical fieldwork, data processing, interpretation and report writing. You will work together with geologists, technicians, drillers, and other geophysicists, sometimes from external organizations.

The geophysics team employs a range of geophysical methods, including potential field, EM and seismic surveys. Downhole geophysical logging is also frequently used in connection with the drilling. The project range covers near-mine to greenfield exploration, and the former can involve underground work. The geophysics group also supports projects within other areas of the company, and is involved in R&D projects in cooperation with universities or other research institutes.

The position will be based either in Kiruna or Malmberget, and the work involves travel between the sites.

Qualifications and skills

We welcome applicants with a Master’s degree in geophysics, alternatively an engineering or Earth science education at a similar level containing advanced geophysical courses.

Both junior and senior professionals are encouraged to apply. We expect that more senior applicants will have some mineral exploration experience, alternatively experience from advanced potential field or EM modelling.

Previous fieldwork experience is an advantage. Please also mention any programming and electronics skills in the application. We value good communication and analytical skills, flexibility, curiosity, and a possibility to work independently as well as in teams.

Good command of English is essential, and driving license is required. We expect that you either know Swedish or is open to learn the language.

Welcome to an exciting possibility! We can offer a position with many interesting challenges and a possibility to interact with colleagues from many different disciplines.

The Swedish Lapland area offers great opportunities for fantastic outdoor activities, such as fishing, hiking, skiing, ice climbing, etc. The ongoing urban transformation in these communities also creates a dynamic and exciting atmosphere.
