The research institute Swerim provides applied research within mining engineering, process metallurgy and materials and manufacturing engineering, mainly for the mining, steel and metals industry. Swerim has 200 co-workers in two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm.

Project description

Statistical model is a key tool to understand the process efficiency in secondary steelmaking. The master thesis project seeks to understand the ladle behaviour during the life-cycle of the refractory wall. The project will involve analysing the process data and quality report to identify trends and provide guidelines for operation.

The thesis candidate will have an opportunity to be involved in plant trials at UDDEHOLM. The samples obtained from the trial will be examined for inclusion characterisation at different ladle age.

Required qualifications
The project requires a good process knowledge with skills in any statistical tools. Experience with characterisation is a merit. The project involves interaction with an experienced team of technicians, researchers, and process engineers from Uddeholm.

Further information
Swerim rewards the student with 50 000 SEK for an approved master thesis (30hp).
