SSAB AB stands out in the international steel industry, prioritizing both sustainability and innovation in its operations. As we embark on our fossil-free transformation journey, we are looking for a highly experienced and senior Project Manager. The plan is to replace the existing system with new mini-mill technology. This investment will enable a reduction of approx. 10% in Sweden’s total carbon dioxide emissions and approx. 7% in Finland’s.

Location is optional, but preferable in one of the locations Luleå or Stockholm in Sweden with frequent travel to the project site in Luleå.

About the position

Do you have substantial experience as a Project Manager overseeing the progression of highly complex industrial projects from inception to completion?

This is a position where you will be responsible of project management for equipment and plant in the Transformation Projects in Luleå a crucial project with the aim to secure that SSAB deliver in their green transition.

You will show great commitment and take full responsibility for your scope. You exhibit a natural competence in guidance and are endowed with commendable communicative abilities. This transformation endeavor marks the most substantial construction and operations rollout at SSAB. In pursuit of creating collective value, we aim to align with people who exhibit both groundedness and an eagerness for cooperative ventures, conscious of the multi-stakeholder environment.

Main responsibilities

  • Provide high-level and broad-scope management to major capital projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and on-scope delivery. The aim is to achieve SSAB production footprint for fossil free steel production. Supervise the day-to-day development of key project goals, assign responsibilities, and determine and observe staffing levels.
  • Have the overall operative project responsibility to prepare budget estimates and develop detailed project plans for all phases of the project.
  • Coach subordinate project managers and team leaders, motivate the project team, and resolve conflicts, blockers, or technical and operational
  • Support the procurement team in contractual negotiations with equipment and service vendors. Ensure that the commercial terms are consistent with the aims and breadth of the project.
  • Direct or interface with selected engineering partners or departments to secure on time delivery of engineering for the project.

About You

  • Engineering degree (B.Sc. / M.Sc. or similar) or similar is required, in economics/business, logistics or legal or equivalent professional experience, of which at least 6-8 years with hands-on project leadership experience in demanding industrial environment (e.g. Steel, Oil & gas, major brown greenfield project involving plant equipment and plant).
  • Six to eight years of experience with comprehensive large-scale Capex projects, including process equipment, civil engineering, and construction activities.
  • Experience and deep knowledge of project management models, processes and tools.
  • Fluency in English, Swedish is meritorious. Experience working in multi-cultural environment is a positive addition.
  • Proven history as project manager implementing complex projects, covering both planning/designing phase as well as execution phase.
  • Capacity to coordinate internal/external engineering work to produce accurate capex estimates and to support procurement in contractual negotiation.
