Your Role

As a Technical Leader (TL) in the Operational Rock Engineering and Geotechnical Mine Design Group (KGE-O), you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of LKAB’s Kiruna mine. Reporting to the KGE-O Group Manager, you will work with the Strategic TL and the 15+ member KGE-O team to implement and enhance rock engineering practices for ground control and safety. You will also contribute to the ongoing modernization of our approach to rock enginering. Your primary responsibility will be to bridge strategy and operations, ensuring that long-term plans are effectively applied to day-to-day work. This includes aligning practices with governing documents such as GCMP, SOPs, TARPs. You will collaborate closely with the Strategic TL on short to medium-range tasks and provide input to LOMP while supporting operational excellence.

As part of the KGE management group, you will also provide broad geotechnical expertise to Kiruna Mine’s Management.

Focus areas:

  • Mentoring team members on a daily basis (inspections, CAD work, routine analysis, and reporting).
  • Enhancing team skills and ensuring knowledge-sharing across KGE-O.
  • Optimizing turnaround times for critical routine tasks.
  • Contributing to layout designs, sequencing, and other medium-range tasks.
  • Assisting with updates to the GCMP, TARPs, and SOPs in collaboration with the Strategic TL.
  • Reviewing and ensuring high-quality documentation, such as plans and inspection reports.
  • Aligning day-to-day practices with the mine’s LOMP

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mining engineering
  • Proven expertise in Rock Engineering within operating mines, ideally involving caving operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship experience, preferably as a team leader in Rock Engineering / Rock Mechanics.
  • Proficiency in routine seismic analysis and interpreting numerical models.
  • Advanced skills in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik) and seismic tools such as IMS Ticker or mXrap (or equivalent).
  • Experience using geotechnical models to inform mine planning and design.
  • Fluency in English is required. Swedish proficiency is an advantage but not essential.
  • A valid driver’s license equivalent to Swedish Class B.
