In this position, you will be part of a European research project focused on accelerating the green transformation of SMEs through cutting-edge digital innovation and circular business models. Subject description

Research in Entrepreneurship and Innovation comprises organizational development with a specific emphasis on firm development based on innovative products, services, production solutions, or management modes.

Project description

We are recruiting a PhD candidate who will conduct research connected to our interdisciplinary project focused on business transformation, circular economy, and digital innovation. The research aims to understand how small and medium-sized enterprises can adopt new digital tools and strategies to reduce waste, use resources more effectively, and create sustainable business models. A key focus of the work is exploring how digital technologies can help companies make better decisions about product design, supply chains, and sustainability practices. The project is collaborative, working closely with companies, public organizations, and international partners to test and implement practical solutions.

The PhD student will be part of an interdisciplinary research team, collaborating with academic and industry partners to contribute to practical outcomes supporting long-term sustainability and competitiveness. The position is embedded in an Interreg Baltic Sea Region project involving partners from several countries around the Baltic Sea. It will require active engagement with SMEs and participation in transnational collaboration, workshops, and knowledge exchange activities across the region.

Duties

A doctoral student position involves theoretical and practical work. As a doctoral student, you are trained in scientific work in the form of publishing scientific articles in journals and at national and international conferences. As a doctoral student, you will take both compulsory and elective courses, plan and execute your research projects independently, and have the opportunity to participate in teaching activities.

Qualifications

The general entry requirements for doctoral (third-cycle) studies are as follows: 1. has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, 2. has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or 3. has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. You can apply even if you are in the last semester of your master. In addition to the general entry requirements, knowledge of business administration, industrial engineering, management, or equivalent subjects is required.

You should be strongly motivated for doctoral studies and have good collaboration and communication skills. It is important that you can express yourself orally and in writing in English. It is an advantage, but not crucial if you can express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish. Further information

Employment as a PhD student is limited to 4 years, teaching and other department duties may be added with max 20%, which means that the period of employment may extend to the same extent. Salary is paid in accordance with current agreements. The position is at the Department of Social Sciences, Technology and Arts at the university’s campus in Luleå.
