We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering (CENE) offers unique, collective research expertise in civil and structural engineering. The research subject of Structural Engineering is now seeking a highly motivated researcher who will contribute to the science and technology of structural condition assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials.

Subject Description
Structural Engineering includes loads, design, sustainability, load carrying capacity, repair and strengthening, of buildings and civil engineering structures made of concrete, steel, wood and other materials, separately or in combination, at normal conditions, in cold climate and in fire.

Duties
As a senior lecturer, you will participate in the development of teaching and research within the fields of structural condition assessment, structural dynamics and application of composite materials.

The position includes the following responsibilities:


• Administration and teaching of undergraduate and advanced level courses given by the structural engineering group.
• Supervision of master's and doctoral students.
• Application for grants to initiate new project-based research directions.

As an applicant, you are expected to participate in the joint development of the education and research area and collaborate with research groups both within the department, the university and with other universities, colleges and other external partners, both nationally and internationally.

Qualifications
To meet the requirements for the appointment as a senior lecturer, the applicants: 


• must have been awarded a doctoral degree or must have the corresponding academic competence[1] or other professional expertise that is valuable for the appointment;
• must demonstrate pedagogical expertise by means of proven experience, teaching expertise and teaching development[2];
• must have completed higher education pedagogy courses equivalent to 7.5 higher education credits or otherwise have acquired equivalent knowledge.

• Use of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems for real-time and long-term assessment of the condition of civil infrastructure
• Extensive laboratory and experimental research experience in structural engineering, including full-scale and component-level testing
• Application of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods for structural condition assessment
• Experience in using contactless techniques for damage and crack detection
• Experience in integrating structural modeling, computational methods, and experimental results into a unified framework for condition assessment and design
• Experience in assessment, evaluation, and strengthening of existing structures, with a focus on aging or weakened infrastructure
• Experience in supervising undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students
• Ability to secure external research funding
• Ability to engage with the wider community
• Documented experience in university-level teaching
• Ability to communicate research and development activities
• Experience in writing high-ranking scientific articles
• Strong communication skills in spoken and written English
• Proven ability to secure research funding
• Documented experience in participation and leadership of R&D projects

The position is a permanent full-time employment located in Luleå. The appointment is planned to start during fall 2025. Location: Luleå.
