Presentation:

Luleå University of Technology is in strong growth with world-leading competence in several research areas. We shape the future through innovative education and ground-breaking research results, and based on the Arctic region, we create global social benefit. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has a total turnover of nearly SEK 2,1 billion per year. We currently have 1,900 employees and 18,700 students.

In the coming years, multi-billion investments will be made in large projects in Northern Sweden to create a fossil-free society both nationally and globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these cutting-edge research projects and in the societal transformation that they entail. We offer a broad range of courses and study programmes to match the skills in demand. We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future. The signal processing group carries out research in the areas of inference and wireless communications, with both acoustic and radio signals. We now offer an opportunity to participate in a dynamic, international research environment in close collaboration with industry and leading universities worldwide.

Subject description
The subject includes signal processing with emphasis on development and optimization of algorithms for processing single and multi-dimensional signals that are closely related to applications and applied research.

Project description
You will participate in a project whose research falls in the intersection of Wireless Communications, Acoustics, and Signal Processing. The project targets the challenge of reliable high-speed communication with tiny, zero-energy sensors or other devices, with acoustic, ultrasound backscatter waves. The project has a broad approach in that it involves both creation of fundamental understanding of acoustic backscatter communications as well as developing a prototype demonstrator in our communications/ultrasound laboratory. We expect results in both these dimensions to result in scientific results published in top-tier journals.

Duties
The department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) is offering a Postdoctoral Fellow position to carry out research with the Signal Processing group. We are looking for an ambitious and creative colleague, who has a Ph.D. degree, strong analytical skills, and who wants to contribute to cutting edge research in this area.

Qualifications
Research will focus on signals in the physical layer and is expected to use methodology from communication theory, wave propagation, signal processing, and electronics. To qualify for a position as a postdoctoral research fellow, you must have a PhD, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD or doctoral degree in the above or related topics. We expect candidates to have strong documented experience and published scientific papers in the above areas. Candidates should have an excellent mastering of the English language, both orally and in writing.
A doctoral degree awarded no more than three years before the application deadline provides a useful qualification. Candidates who have been awarded a doctoral degree at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds, for example, different types of statutory leave of absence. Applicants who are close to finishing a PhD are also encouraged to apply.

Further information
The position is fully funded by the Research Science Council and is awarded for two years with placement in Luleå, Sweden. Starting date is according to agreement between the two parties.
