The Position
We are now looking for a driven and committed rock mechanic who wants to join and contribute to a sustainable mining operation in Pajala. As a rock mechanic, you are part of the Planning Department at the mine, which is responsible for both short-term and long-term mining planning, surveying, geology and grade control. The work means that you will work in an area under constant change that places high demands on safety. Our business is conducted in the mining area in Kaunisvaara, where you will be stationed on site.
Job duties
As a rock mechanic, you are responsible for overall rock mechanics queries and development within mine planning. The work involves creating conditions for safe and controlled mining. You work closely with mine planning and production colleagues. You work mainly with structural geology, strength, slopes and stability in our open pit. This means establishing a workflow for control, follow-up and remediation measures. Inspection and assessment of rock conditions, documentation, measurement, follow-up as well as to support production in issues surrounding ongoing and planned mining. In addition, this includes following the mining sequence according to plan and ensuring that the choice of mining methods matches the rock mechanics criteria. The role also involves a small amount of planning e.g. to design mine designs and design adjustments and to assist with related rock mechanic issues for drilling, charging and blasting.
Education and qualifications
We are looking for you who have a university degree with a focus on rock engineering/rock mechanics and five years of experience in mining and rock mechanics. You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and a class B driver's license for manual transmission. Experience with mine planning software and/or other CAD programs is a plus. The position requires the ability to communicate in spoken and written English and an interest in learning Swedish.
